La Florida grant helps color roadside in Melbourne Village

The town of Melbourne Village received a La Florida, "Land of Flowers," Community Planting Grant in 2011 to install wildflowers at the intersection of West Pine Road and Norman Drive. Florida Wildflower Foundation board member Vince Lamb recently visited the high-visibility site and took photos of the results.

Blanketflower is doing well (of course!). Also included on the planted-species list were Spotted horsemint, Dune sunflower, Coonties, Yellowtop and Sunshine mimosa. Sharon Dolan, owner of Maple Street Natives, assisted with design of the planted area and provided plants. Members of the Florida Native Plant Society Conradina chapter and the Melbourne Garden Club helped install the plants.

We look forward to seeing more of this site in bloom soon.
